Over the past decade, a significant increase has occurred in the amount and quality of research examining the role of exercise in managing cancer-related fatigue (CRF).1–5 In fact, a recent systematic review noted that CRF is the most commonly studied patient-reported outcome in exercise trials.6 Nevertheless, the use of exercise to manage CRF may be counterintuitive for patients and cancer care professionals because the natural response to CRF is to rest. This article provides an overview of the research literature and clinical recommendations on aerobic and resistance exercise programs for managing CRF.
