Timely access to oncology care is a critical determinant of cancer outcomes. Delays in diagnosis and treatment contribute to increased mortality, disease progression, and patient distress. Two leading academic centers—Duke Cancer Institute and UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center—have developed innovative, scalable models to address these challenges. Through advanced practice provider–led e-consults and web-based self-scheduling tools, these institutions have significantly reduced barriers to entry and accelerated access to cancer care. This article examines the structure, implementation, and results of these strategies, offering insights into best practices for enhancing oncology care delivery.
